32 King Street
This Tuscan Cottage home is an example of an early raised ranch and a variation on the Italianate style. Its style was influenced by A.J. Downing, who is considered by many to be America’s first landscape architect. Notable features include the bracketsupport, cast-iron balcony, bracketed eaves and high-pitched roof. Also unusual is the mixing of different materials, such as brick and stone. This may be the only Tuscan style home in Rochester.
The house was home to city physician, Frederick Reichenbach, and his wife, Franc. Franc was the Principal of School #19 from 1887 to 1915 and was a close friend of Susan B. Anthony. Her ancestors can be traced back to the Mayflower.
